Sans surprise, Victor Osimhen a remporté le titre de Joueur Africain de l’année, plus connu sous le nom de Ballon d’Or Africain, ce lundi soir à l’occasion de la cérémonie des CAF Awards à Marrakech, au Maroc.

Alors que le Marocain Yassine Bounou et l’Algérien Riyad Mahrez, qui semblaient représenter ses deux concurrents les plus sérieux, ne figuraient pas sur le podium à la surprise générale, l’attaquant de Naples a logiquement devancé les deux autres finalistes, Mohamed Salah (Egypte, Liverpool), sacré en 2017 et 2018, et Achraf Hakimi (Maroc, Paris Saint-Germain). Osimhen est le premier Nigérian sacré depuis 1999 et le 4e Super Eagle de l’histoire à soulever le trophée après Rashidi Yekini (1993), Emmanuel Amunike (1994), Nwankwo Kanu (1996, 1999) et Victor Ikpeba (1997). Il avait terminé 8e du dernier Ballon d’Or, soit l’Africain le mieux classé de cette édition.
