C’est pourtant dans le cadre d’accords similaires que les forces françaises étaient présentes au Mali à travers Serval et Barkhan avant que les autorités maliennes ne rompent les ponts de la défense avec Paris au profit de Moscou. Ce faisant, la France et Emmanuel Macron avaient accepté la décision qu’une «junte malienne» dépourvue de toute légitimité, à l’instar des autorités nigériennes, décident de la présence de leurs forces armées au Mali.
