Le 22 août 2025, le Gouvernement Burkinabè a annoncé Target Malaria pour des raisons de la vision de souveraineté sanitaire engagée par le Président Ibrahim Traoré.
« La coalition de veille citoyenne sur les activités biotechnologiques a exprimé vendredi sa satisfaction après la décision du gouvernement burkinabè de mettre fin au projet Target Malaria, qu’elle jugeait dangereux pour la souveraineté sanitaire du pays. Pour le porte-parole de la coalition, Ali Tapsoba, cette mesure illustre la mise en œuvre effective de la vision souverainiste portée par le Président Ibrahim Traoré », souligne l’Agence d’Information du Burkina (AIB).
« Nous apprécions cette décision avec beaucoup de joie. Comme nous l’avions souligné lors de nos conférences de presse, nous étions convaincus que nous avions un gouvernement responsable. Avec la vision souverainiste prônée par le Capitaine Ibrahim Traoré, nous savions qu’à partir du moment où nous produirons des évidences montrant que ce projet était dangereux, le gouvernement allait y mettre fin. Ce communiqué nous rassure et prouve que nous pouvons faire confiance à notre gouvernement. C’est aussi la preuve qu’au Burkina Faso, le débat scientifique est ouvert », a déclaré M. Tapsoba, joint vendredi par l’AIB.
Selon l’AIB, avec cette décision, le gouvernement entend clore définitivement les activités liées au projet Target Malaria, mené depuis plusieurs années en collaboration avec des institutions de recherche, et qui suscitait de vifs débats au sein de l’opinion nationale.
