NEW YORK (Nations Unies), 17 avril (Xinhua) — Le représentant spécial du secrétaire général de l’ONU pour la Libye et chef de la Mission d’appui des Nations Unies en Libye (MANUL), Abdoulaye Bathily, a démissionné.
M. Bathily a informé les journalistes après avoir fait savoir au Conseil de sécurité mardi qu’il avait présenté sa démission au secrétaire général de l’ONU, Antonio Guterres.
Le service de presse de M. Guterres a confirmé par la suite que le chef de l’ONU avait reçu la lettre de démission et qu’il avait accepté la démission de M. Bathily.
“Le secrétaire général est reconnaissant envers M. Bathily pour sa direction de la MANUL et pour ses efforts inlassables en vue de rétablir la paix et la stabilité en Libye,” a indiqué le service de presse. “Le secrétaire général réitère l’engagement des Nations Unies à continuer de soutenir le processus politique mené et contrôlé par les Libyens.”
La date à laquelle M. Bathily quittera son poste n’a pas été précisée dans l’immédiat.
Lors de sa rencontre avec la presse, M. Bathily a blâmé le manque de volonté politique et de bonne foi des principaux acteurs libyens, qui s’accommodent de l’impasse actuelle depuis 2011, ainsi que les dynamiques internationales et régionales émergentes dans lesquelles le territoire libyen est utilisé comme site d’affrontement militaire par différents pays.
Dans la situation actuelle, il n’y a aucune chance que les Nations Unies puissent opérer avec succès, a-t-il ajouté. “En ce qui me concerne, j’ai fait de mon mieux.”
Bathily a été nommé à ce poste en septembre 2022.
