Le Mali a célébré ce 30 octobre la journée mondiale de la santé mentale. À cette occasion, les responsables des services psychiatriques et parents de malades mentaux ont demandé la multiplication des centres de prise en charge.

« Je vais vous parler de mon fils, il y a 8 ans, il parlait tout seul face à un mur de notre concession », témoigne une dame qui précise avoir pris contact avec des médecins au CHU du Point G. « Aucune école publique ou privée n’accepte nos enfants et les médicaments sont chers », regrette un proche de malade.

Manque crucial d’infrastructures

Les responsables du service de psychiatrie du Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire du Point G affirment que la couverture nationale est insuffisante en structures de prise en charge en santé mentale. « La majorité des praticiens de soins mentaux sont à Bamako. On a un manque d’infrastructures. Beaucoup de personnes ont besoin des soins de santé mentale, mais elles en reçoivent pas au Mali actuellement ». affirme le Chef du service. Pr Souleymane Coulibaly. D’après des spécialistes de la maladie, l’unique centre de prise en charge reçoit plus de 7000 cas par an.

L’urgence de mobiliser des ressources

Pour le directeur pays de International médical corps, les conflits ont aussi impacté sur la prise en charge de cette pathologie. Dr Jean Mukenga, a plaidé pour la mobilisation des ressources nécessaires. « Nous profitons de cette opportunité pour lancer un vibrant appel à l’endroit des autorités et aux bailleurs de fonds pour la prise en compte de cette problématique de santé mentale dans leur priorité pour l’amélioration du bien-être et des capacités de résilience des populations vulnérables », soutient-il.

Les associations des parents des malades mentaux ont recommandé de voter une loi interdisant l’incarcération des personnes malades de cette pathologie, et la prise en charge des traitements par l’assurance.
