Les nouvelles autorités nigériennes ont annoncé, le jeudi 3 août dernier, qu’ils dénonçaient « les accords de coopération dans le domaine de la sécurité et de la défense » avec Paris. Des accords militaires conclus avec la France, qui concernent notamment le « stationnement » du détachement français et le « statut » des militaires présents dans le cadre de lutte  contre le djihadisme

« Face à l’attitude désinvolte et la réaction de la France relativement à la situation » au Niger, « le Conseil national pour la sauvegarde de la patrie (CNSP, militaires au pouvoir), décide de dénoncer les accords de coopération dans le domaine de la sécurité et de la défense avec cet État », a déclaré le colonel-major Amadou Abdramane, membre du CNSP.

Comble de ridicule ! La France a réagi, le vendredi 4 août dernier, à la dénonciation au sujet des accords de coopération militaire entre les deux pays, en soulignant que « seules les autorités nigériennes légitimes » étaient en mesure de les rompre.

« La France rappelle que le cadre juridique de sa coopération avec le Niger en matière de défense repose sur des accords qui ont été conclus avec les autorités nigériennes légitimes », a indiqué vendredi le ministère français des Affaires étrangères. Ces autorités « sont les seules que la France, comme l’ensemble de la communauté internationale, reconnaît », a-t-il ajouté, tout en « prenant note » du communiqué du CNSP. Paris compte 1 500 soldats déployés au Niger.

Par ailleurs, les ambassadeurs du Niger en France, aux Etats-Unis, au Nigeria et au Togo ont été démis de leurs fonctions par les nouvelles autorités.
