Sur fond de situation difficile au Niger, le Burkina Faso et le Mali expriment leur solidarité envers le “peuple frère”. À ces fins, les deux pays ont décidé d’envoyer une délégation à Niamey.

Le Mali et le Burkina envoient des délégations au Niger pour “témoigner de la solidarité des deux pays au peuple frère”, ont déclaré les Forces armées maliennes.

La délégation sera conduite par Abdoulaye Maïga, ministre de l’Administration territoriale et porte-parole du gouvernement.

Menace d’intervention militaire, selon le Niger

Suite au renversement du Président nigérien Mohamed Bazoum fin juillet, la Communauté économique des États d’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) a fixé un ultimatum aux militaires ayant fait le coup d’État pour le rétablir dans ses fonctions, sous peine d’une intervention armée. L’ultimatum a expiré le 7 août.

Selon la CEDEAO, une opération militaire est “la dernière option sur la table”. Pourtant, le Niger a annoncé dimanche la fermeture de son espace aérien face à une menace d’intervention, a indiqué le Conseil national de la sauvegarde de la patrie (CNSP) qui a renversé le Président Mohamed Bazoum.

Soutien manifesté

Le 31 juillet, les gouvernements du Burkina Faso et du Mali avaient déjà exprimé leur solidarité avec le peuple nigérien et ont condamné l’imposition de sanctions par la CEDEAO contre Niamey. Selon les deux États, de telles mesures ne font qu’”aggraver la souffrance des populations et mettent en péril l’esprit du panafricanisme”.

Ouagadougou et Bamako ont averti qu’ils considéreraient toute intervention militaire au Niger comme une déclaration de guerre contre eux-mêmes. Faisant suite à ces déclarations, la France a décidé de suspendre le financement et l’aide au développement au Burkina Faso.

La compagnie aérienne Air France a en outre suspendu ses liaisons aériennes avec le Burkina Faso et le Mali.
