– Le Nigeria avait précédemment coupé son approvisionnement en électricité vers le Niger, après le coup d’État militaire qui a renversé le président Bazoum.

Le conseil militaire du Niger, qui a mené un coup d’État militaire contre le président Mohamed Bazoum le 26 juillet, a décidé de rompre les relations diplomatiques avec le Nigeria voisin.

Les médias nigériens ont rapporté vendredi que le conseil avait rompu les relations diplomatiques avec le Nigeria suite aux efforts de la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) pour résoudre la crise politique dans le pays.

Dimanche, les chefs d’État de la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO), ont autorisé, à l’issue d’un sommet d’urgence organisé par le Nigeria, le recours à la force si le président Bazoum ne reprenait pas ses fonctions dans la semaine.

Mercredi, le Nigeria a annoncé la suspension de son approvisionnement en électricité vers le Niger sur fond de coup d’État mené par la junte militaire, qui a pris le contrôle du pays.

Jeudi, le porte-parole du conseil, le colonel Amadou Abdel Rahman, a annoncé que le conseil militaire avait limogé les ambassadeurs du Niger au Nigeria, en France, au Togo et aux Etats-Unis.

Le 26 juillet, le chef de l’unité de la Garde présidentielle, le général Abdourahamane Tchiani, a mené un coup d’État militaire qui a renversé le régime de Bazoum, séquestré, depuis lors, au palais présidentiel. Le putsch a été condamné par la communauté internationale qui a réclamé le rétablissement du président déchu.
