 Selon un des membres de la délégation, les envoyés de la CEDEAO sont repartis et n’ont vu ni le chef des militaires qui ont pris le pouvoir, ni le général Abdourahamane Tiani, ni le Président renversé.

La délégation de la Communauté économique des États d’Afrique de l’ouest (CEDEAO) arrivée le 3 août au soir à Niamey pour trouver une sortie de crise au Niger, est repartie quelques heures plus tard, a indiqué un de ses membres.

“Les envoyés de la CEDEAO sont repartis” et n’ont vu ni le chef des militaires qui ont pris le pouvoir la semaine dernière, le général Abdourahamane Tiani, ni le Président renversé Mohamed Bazoum, a expliqué vendredi un des membres de la délégation.

Cette délégation était menée par l’ancien chef de l’État nigérian Abdulsalami Abubakar et devait initialement rencontrer les militaires qui ont pris le pouvoir au Niger “pour présenter les demandes des dirigeants de la CEDEAO”, selon un communiqué de la présidence du Nigeria.

Depuis le 26 juillet, le pouvoir au Niger est aux mains du Conseil national de sauvegarde de la patrie (CNSP), présidé par le général Abdourahamane Tiani.

La CEDEAO a imposé de lourdes sanctions à Niamey et a donné jusqu’au 6 août aux militaires au pouvoir pour rétablir dans ses fonctions le Président Mohamed Bazoum, renversé le 26 juillet, sous peine d’utiliser “la force”.

Jeudi soir, le CNSP a promis de riposter “immédiatement” en cas d’”agression ou tentative d’agression” contre son pays par la CEDEAO.

Une réunion des chefs d’état-major ouest-africains se tient depuis mercredi et jusqu’à vendredi à Abuja, au Nigeria.
